Since its founding as a pre-university institution in 1971 with only 150 students, NMKRV College for Women has expanded rapidly. It changed its name to the NMKRV Degree College for Women in 1973. The college has a "A" rating and is recognised by the UGC and NCTE. For its great commitment towards education, the college has achieved several attainments and ascended towards success. In 2016, they were given the distinction of "College with Potential for Excellence" and were placed in the "O" category by DST under the FIST Program.

Science, Arts, Commerce, Language, Business Administration, and Education are the six academic divisions of NMKRV College. Every department offers a number of programs with different areas of expertise. It provides B.Sc., B.Com., BA, and BBA programs within the UG domain.It provides M.Sc., M.A., and M.Com. programs under the PG Domain. Additionally, integrated programs such as B.A. + B.Ed. and B.Sc. + B.Ed. courses in several specialisations are offered by NMKRV College for Women.
