Founded in 1988, Dr. GR Damodaran College of Science is an independent institution situated in Coimbatore. GRDCS has an A grade from the UGC and NAAC and is associated with Bharathiar University in Coimbatore. It received the ISO 9001:2015 certification and AUTONOMY from the UGC in 2004–2005. The college provides undergraduate, graduate, master's, and doctoral courses in a variety of fields, including as management, biotechnology, computer science and information technology, visual and mass communication, commerce and international business, psychology, and Tamil literature, among others. The All India Council for Technical Education has approved courses such as MBA and MCA (AICTE). Merit and entrance examinations are used to determine admission to undergraduate and graduate programs. MAT scores are taken into consideration for MBA course admissions.

From 27 students enrolled in two undergraduate courses at the beginning, Dr. GR Damodaran College of Science has expanded to over 5000 students enrolled in various undergraduate, graduate, and research (M.Phil. / Ph.D.) programs. Among the leading recruiters are EY, Amazon, Ford, Kotak Life, Bata, Wipro, ICICI Bank, Infosys, and many more. The institute also helps students find employment.
